Do you deserve some accolades?
You want some accolades ? Have you paid your dues?
Business talk & advert (read through 😊)
Hey guys. This is my first attempt on writing about business, although it's not so 'businessy' like talking about profits and accounts and the likes. I might do a post on that later on, and of course I'll try to make it simple and relatable.
So, what is this post about? Its simply about attitude to business/ work. Basically about 'Minding your business' (lol)
This post also ends with a short advert I'm doing for a good friend's business. Here we go.
Talking about businesses, do you own a business? Have you ever owned one, or dreamt of owning one? I have thought of starting so many businesses in the past, but I've never actually launched myself out there into the business world. Honestly, it seems owning businesses is the ’in’ thing now, especially amongst the younger generation. I've heard many catch phrases like ‘The future is black/white’ (referring a particular race), or ‘The future is Female’ (self explanatory), however, I'm sure the future is undoubtedly young- ‘The future is young’. Like it or not we are the future, and we have started taking over, we have a headstart unlike our parents so we are capable of doing even much more.
But how many people can start their own businesses? How many people even know what it takes? Answer- not many. So for some the next best thing is to work for someone else, get the experience they need and then gather enough knowledge and of course money to start their own business. Because, lets face it -not everyone can easily just plan to start a business and actually do it! Those that have actually done it- you deserve some accolades, you’ve definitely paid your dues!!!
And some mighty accolades also go to those who have worked with others too. Because, in all honesty, working with other people, scratch that, ‘working under people’ is not easy. A good example, our parents. We love them, but a lot of times, it seems like being ‘under’ their authority gets hard! Now imagine being under the authority of someone not related to you, a lot of patience is required there. You see why working with other people is very demanding? You're not only focusing on the job you're doing, but on a good relationship with those you work with, and especially with your boss.
So I get really impressed, quite excited and might I say touched, when I see people who are working as employees, doing their work with all of their heart and putting all of their effort and time, into the business of other people. I once heard a saying ‘if you treat someone else's business as if it was your own, you will succeed in doing your own business”.
Recently I've considered myself as a life long learner, I learn lessons and new things everyday by just observing the people and the environment.Trust me it has been so exciting and enlightening, and it made me see things that other people don't even notice.
I have seen many examples of people who have not taken their's or other people's business serious, and I've seen those who have. One example that stood out for me, was a certain security man at a certain ‘orange’ (I don’t remember the name just the colour) bank at ‘ÒJA ÈKO’ the famous lagos market. I believe He deserves enormous accolades, read through and see if you do too.
I was at the market one day with my mum and she needed to withdraw more money while we were shopping. So we looked for a bank to go to. Then our attention was caught by a security guard who was going into the streets (very busy market street) to coerce and persuade people to come in and use the bank's ATM. It seemed funny to me because that act was only done actual traders selling merchandise. I was taken aback by how diligent he was in his security guard work even when no one was watching , especially in such a place as a busy market. It was neither the headquarters or a branch head office, this definitely wasn't 'eye service'.

To confirm this, I listened to people go on and on about how the man is always this jovial and dutiful at work. He would talk with them, make them comfortable just to douse their tension from standing in line, even offer them a place to seat in case they got tired! I was amazed. He didn’t stop there, he also went on to talk about the bank, and why people should consider banking with them if they aren’t already. What surprised me more is that he didn’t just give vague promises and advertisement, he had facts, testimonials from other users, he had records and statistics to compare with other banks! Like who does that?
All this and he was just a security man. Some other staff in the banking hall would be seated in a comfortable chair with the AC on, and still not appreciate their job, but here was Mr Orange standing under the hot sun, not caring about himself, and even ready to buy a chilled bottle of water for anyone in need of it on the queue!! He actually offered someone so I know . You can then imagine other guards that would address you in such a way that you wouldn’t even want to go into the bank (smh).
Here's my favorite part. Mr Orange isn't young like us, he's already in his late forties /early fifties, an he was that hyper minding the business of another person like his own (even at the post of a guard)! He definitely deserves big big accolades because he paid his dues, and he paid it in full!
How much more we the younger generation, the future of tomorrow?

You might not have a business, but do you have school work or a skill you're learning? Take it serious.
Just like that security man, I am always excited when I see people go about business the right way, whether its their's or not.
Then and only then do you truly deserve accolades.
