Ginger o Ginger

"Ginger o ginger
Ginger eh ginger ...."
How many of you remember that song?
I guess we're age mates then (or you're older) lol.
It's so fun remembering all these old 'jams' and other fun stuff we did as children.
Like when I would pretend to be sleeping when my mum calls me, but suddenly 'wake up' when I hear a treat is involved. Or when I would use one finger to trickle water down my face when I wanted to fake cry to escape punishments πŸ˜‚.( Good times)
Anyways thank God for the growth!  We grow up and we glow up! Innit?
What does ginger even mean? Apart from the food stuff meaning, it is used here in Nigeria as a slang to mean excitement or enthusiasm or to be lively. I guess that was the 'ginger' in the song. Not the edible one.

I love food, you'll see more of that in my next post, don't worry I eat healthy and in small quantities so I'm good.
Today, I'll be sharing an experience from my recent love for smoothiesπŸ˜†.

What's a smoothie? I know you know but just in case : it's a blend of different fruits of choice, a thick binder (maybe yogurt or milkshake) and of course some ice to keep it all together and make it nicely chilled .😏 I want one just talking about it.
There is no actual standard mixture, I don't know how you take yours but anything is fine. As far as it's a blend of fruits it's a smoothie.

The first time I  tried a smoothie was at home. I was on my own when my mum called me and said she wanted to make 'smoothie'. I'm like that's good, but I don't want.
She made me stay there as she got out the blender and put in her 3 favourite fruits : pineapple, red apple and watermelon, and blended them up. I was like yuck! Why not just eat the fruits?
She insisted so I tried it but made mine cold as opposed to her warm fruit paste (love you mum), soon after I started to enjoy this 'smoothie' of ours. (I secretly used to leave mine overnight so I could eat it frozen. Oh the splendour! )

Then I came to school and spotted a smoothie place. Went there once,  tried it and promised myself I'd never go back. It wasn't so bad, I guess I was just reluctant to the change. I kept tasting 'sediments' at the bottom and I didn't like the feel on my tongue. It wasn't done like at home, and I  couldn't even finish it.

Then one day I was with my friend and he said we should go get smoothies,  as a good friend I agreed.
So I went to get a smoothie this day with my friend . As we waited for our turn, (let's not speak of the crowd that's always there- tiring!)  we discussed what mixtures we wanted. He mentioned his, it seemed cool except for the ginger part.

Why Ginger!!! Of all things? Especially since I was just getting used to taking smoothies. He managed to convince me to try it saying it wasn't so bad. As my adventurous self, I did, and it wasn't actually that bad. It was still my preferred fruity mix but with that distinct ginger taste, that wasn't even over-powering at all (with the right amount of course).

In the end : I enjoyed it, and I'm glad I opened my mind to try it. Let's just say every now and then, I add a little ginger in the mix, just because. Somehow I don't even taste the 'sediments' in the  smoothie anymore. Infact the guys at the smoothie booth are now my friends! That's how much I go there, can you imagine? Who would have thought?!

Imagine we are like ginger. We don't have to look for ways to be like the rest. If you're like me, 'blending in' isn't so easy. Not because you have a problem, or you don't want to, but because you have your own 'special' (different) way of doing things that people don't understand, value or relate to.
For real it gets to a point where there's this temptation to try to 'change', just to feel among or 'included' . Feeling included is  not a bad thing at all (we all need friends in our lives) but never forget who you are to be like the rest.

Don't give in to the pressure to suppress,  your wild & wide imaginations, quirky  and seemingly crazy ideas, boisterous attitude, elaborate smile, big hair, dark skin tone, silly laugh, and so on. All these make you special.

Some people have it easy yh. They're like 'blending in, woo-hoo let's do that, no biggie!' Lol, ok maybe not exactly, but it seems easier for some than others. That's normal.

Understand that, and never feel ashamed or discouraged that you're different. The world would be boring without your uniqueness, without OUR uniqueness. (Yes I'm with you!)
Embrace it. Wear it like a crown. And you will be respected as such. If you trade your crown to be like the others, you'll be stuck in the middle. Neither here nor there.
Because no matter how hard you try, if you're different -you're different!   Don't struggle with it, own it!

Have friends, have good friends, have a group of friends, have a squad of freinds, and most importantly have friends that get it! #squadgoals and still be able to stay true to you!

Be like ginger. Blend in, but still stand out! Blend in, stand out.I feel so proud of myself for that quote 😊 (momma I made it!!! Lol)

Because even in the middle of all that mix, you'll be there but still have your own flavour  - you'll stand out. -Bamise

Just like that little ginger in my smoothie.
